The Humanities faculty aims to promote an enjoyment of learning, where pupils are encouraged to become independent, multi-skilled and successful learners through the study of Geography and History. We aim to help all students reach their potential and to foster a life long interest in Geography and History
Geography :
In geography we aim to stimulate an interest in and a sense of wonder about places. We aim to help young people make sense of a complex and dynamically changing world. We aim to explain where places are, how places and landscapes are formed, how people and their environment interact, and how a diverse range of economies, societies and environments are interconnected.
History:
In History
we aim to fires students' curiosity and imagination, moving and inspiring them with the dilemmas, choices and beliefs of people in the past. We aim to help students develop their own identities through an understanding of history at personal, local, national and international levels so that they are able to ask and answer questions of the present by engaging with the past.
Sociology (Key stage 4):
In Sociology we aim to encourage learners to be inspired, moved and challenged by following a broad, coherent and satisfying course. We aim for students to reflect on their own experience of the social world in order to enhance their ability to play informed roles in different social contexts. We hope that their study develops their understanding of the interrelationships between individuals, groups, institutions and societies.
