elcome to Science

The Departments aims:

Science comes from the Latin "scientia" meaning knowledge, but it is not simply a collection of facts about the World around us; it is a way of thinking.atom Our aim is to develop the skills of all students so that they may approach any task by collecting the right information, making relevant observations and testing their theories out in a valid way. Such skills are essential in everyday life, and are not just confined to the classroom or a laboratory. A successful student of science will leave our school with the ability and confidence to research, analyse and problem-solve. They will also, of course, remember some of the many exciting experiments and investigations they will take part in along the way!

Facilities :

All teachers have their own laptop or desktop computer, and each laboratory is equipped with an Interactive Whiteboard. Complete refurbishment of our science laboratories is due for completion before September 2009. We have experienced technicians, who develop and provide a full range of resources from our two preparation areas.

Extra-Curricular:

Each week, we offer a choice of two science clubs. One is aimed at students who wish to take part in fun experiments and activities outside our regular curriculum lessons. These help to develop practical skills and provide an opportunity to try more novel investigations that foster a healthy interest in science. Our other science club is currently aimed at year 7 students who like anything related to Space and the Universe. Students may use some of the activities of our clubs to achieve the nationally recognised Bronze and Silver CREST Awards. Additionally, we offer an after-school science workshop/support session every week so that any student needing a little extra help can come along and get the support they need.
